Practice Plan for Dealing with COVID-19

BURNEY STREET SITE WILL BE CLOSED AS OF WEDNESDAY 18TH MARCH, ALL PATIENT SERVICES WILL CONTINUE AT THE WALLACE HEALTH CENTRE

The Practice is currently receiving daily updates from NHS England on the current pandemic and we will follow all guidance set by them. Excellent advice is available on the NHS Wesbite: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/ 

Following guidance from NHS England in light of COVID-19, in order to minimise unnecessary trips to the Surgery we will be offering patients the options of a telephone triage with a GP. Any patient who requires an appointment whether it is urgent or routine will need to be triaged (screened) by the GP. All patients are required to submit an eConsult and are no longer able to book online or by contacting Reception directly. Please do not attend in person to Reception to request an appointment. If you have difficulty completing the eConsult, please ring the Reception for assistance. 

All appointment requests will be screened by a GP from the eConsult and the outcome will be a phone consultation, email or face to face appointment when needed. You will receive a response by the next working day. Due to the volume of requests routine requests, prescriptions and administrative queries/requests may take up to 7 days. 

Sick Notes related to COVID-19 - this can be located under Sickness Certificates under Further Information on the right hand side. 

Home Visits requests for patients who are housebound can be made via contacting Reception on 0208 858 0631, preferably before 11am.

Prescriptions are no longer to be collected from either practice Burney Street or Wallace Health Centre to reduce football to the Surgery. All patients will be required to select a nominated pharmacy and collect this from their nominated pharmacy. Please use the online services form to request your medication and add your nominated pharmacy in the comments.

Stay at home for 7 days if you have or 14 days if someone in your household has either:

  • a high temperature
  • a new, continuous cough

DO NOT GO TO A GP SURGERY, PHARMACY OR HOSPITAL

If you live with someone who is 70 or over, has a long-term condition, is pregnant or has a weakened immune system, try to find somewhere else for them to stay for 14 days.

If you have to stay at home together, try to keep away from each other as much as possible

Appointments

coffeediaryRoutine Doctor appointments are currently suspended until further notice due to the current COVID-19 outbreak.

Emergency Appointments

Our reception team are authorised to allocate an emergency appointment to children under the age of 6 months.

If you feel that you have a genuine medical emergency, reception will offer an appointment at the Greenwich GP Access Hub or advise you to attend an Urgent Care Centre.

If there are no appointments available at the Greenwich GP Access Hub or you cannot attend an Urgent Care Centre then go to the Practice website homepage and click 'I want help for my condition' or 'I want general advice' and complete a simple set of approved questions (takes approx. 5-10 mins) and then simply submit your request to the Surgery

Appointment Times

Our appointment system is scheduled so that Doctors can provide 10 minute consultations and Nurses 15 minute consultations.

If you have more than one problem to discuss, please consider whether you need to book a double appointment and mention this to the receptionist when booking. You will also need a separate appointment for each person who needs to be seen.

Appointment Reminders

We now have the facility to send out appointment reminders via a text service. At the time of a patient registering with the practice their mobile number will be automatically included to receive this service. If you would like to opt out of receiving text reminders, please make reception aware.

Lateness Policy

If you are more than 10 minutes late for your appointment, you may be asked to wait until the end of the surgery before you are seen. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, you will be asked to re-book your appointment.

DNA Policy

Due to an increase in the number of patients failing to attend for their appointment it has become necessary to introduce a Did Not Attend (DNA) Policy.

Unfortunately if a patient repeatedly fails to attend appointments they may be removed from this practice list and will have to find an alternative doctor.

Therefore if you cannot attend your appointment for any reason please be considerate and let us know as soon as possible so that we can offer the appointment to someone else so that they may get to see the doctor of their choice on the day that they wish to.

GP Training

The Burney Street Practice is an accredited training practice for fully qualified Doctors entering General Practice (GP Registrars), who will often remain with us for one year. We are also involved in training medical students and nurses who may sometimes accompany one of the Doctors. You will always be informed if a Doctor has a student with them, and if you prefer to be seen alone, we will of course respect your wishes.
