Routine Doctor appointments can be made online using the myGP App on your preferred smartphone or via Patient Online Services (see Further information or alternatively speak to a member of the reception team).
Appointments can also be made by telephone or by visiting either surgery during the Practice's opening hours. Our phone line tends to be very busy at 8 am so there may be a delay in the time that your call is answered so you may wish to call at any time of the day.
The reception team will offer the first routine appointment that is available unless a specific doctor is requested as you may want to see the same doctor to maintain continuity of care, however you may have to wait longer for an appointment.
To help us to help you, our receptionists are authorised to ask the nature of the appointment that you require in order to offer the most appropriate service. At times you may be advised to self-care with over the counter medication; your local pharmacist is a healthcare professional and can advise and treat many minor medical conditions.
Our reception team are authorised to allocate an emergency appointment to children under the age of 5.
If you feel that you have a genuine medical emergency, reception will offer an appointment at the Greenwich GP Access Hub or advise you to attend an Urgent Care Centre.
If there are no appointments available at the Greenwich GP Access Hub or you cannot attend an Urgent Care Centre then the practice also has a daily Duty Doctor Telephone service from 08:30-11:00 for genuine medical emergencies. The receptionist can add you to the list for a telephone call from the doctor. The doctor will then call you and triage your symptoms and if they feel that you need to be seen, you will be allocated an appointment. From Wednesday 27th November E-consult will replace this service.
Our appointment system is scheduled so that Doctors can provide 10 minute consultations and Nurses 15 minute consultations.
If you have more than one problem to discuss, please consider whether you need to book a double appointment and mention this to the receptionist when booking. You will also need a separate appointment for each person who needs to be seen.
We now have the facility to send out appointment reminders via a text service. At the time of a patient registering with the practice their mobile number will be automatically included to receive this service. If you would like to opt out of receiving text reminders, please make reception aware.
If you are more than 10 minutes late for your appointment, you may be asked to wait until the end of the surgery before you are seen. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, you will be asked to re-book your appointment.
Due to an increase in the number of patients failing to attend for their appointment it has become necessary to introduce a Did Not Attend (DNA) Policy.
Unfortunately if a patient repeatedly fails to attend appointments they may be removed from this practice list and will have to find an alternative doctor.
Therefore if you cannot attend your appointment for any reason please be considerate and let us know as soon as possible so that we can offer the appointment to someone else so that they may get to see the doctor of their choice on the day that they wish to.

The Burney Street Practice is an accredited training practice for fully qualified Doctors entering General Practice (GP Registrars), who will often remain with us for one year. We are also involved in training medical students and nurses who may sometimes accompany one of the Doctors. You will always be informed if a Doctor has a student with them, and if you prefer to be seen alone, we will of course respect your wishes.
